Learning Disabilities – Changing America

According to Dr. Robert Melillo in his book, The Disconnect Child, in a 2009 study 1 in 6 kindergartners show signs of neurological problems. If this is correct the impact on our children for learning disabilities is HUGE! In his book he also reports that in 2007 the Center for Disease Control did a study on Neurological Problems in children. The CDC concluded that Neurological problems have reached, “epidemic” proportions.

”The Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation was the first organization to operate a full-time program of research into SPD. One study (Ahn, Miller, Milberger, McIntosh, 2004) shows that at least 1 in 20 children’s daily lives is affected by SPD. Another population-based study (Ben-Sasson, Carter, Briggs-Gowen, 2009) suggests that 1 in 6 children experiences sensory challenges sufficient to disrupt their academic, social, and/or emotional development.”
